New Flue Installation
All gas boilers need servicing and maintenance over their lifetime and they also will eventually need replacing at some point too. All new boilers must have a new flue installed too. So flue access is paramount. Due to space constraints and home-owners wanting to maximise the available space in their premises, we encounter boilers tucked away and hidden in the most inappropriate spots – in tight concealed high level voids and loft eaves, behind panelling or right at the back of kitchen corner units under worktops. It’s then up to us to service and check them for safety which means getting up and in to find and trace them. We can then advise the customer accordingly.
Installing a new flue for a boiler in such positions can also be challenging. The flue may run through concealed voids that require opening up or may exit high up the building meaning a scaffold or special techniques are needed to reach it, replace it and make sure it is weatherproof externally. They may also run up old chimneys or through other people’s flats – both of which can mean potentially dangerous situations.
The gas meter or water stopcock feeding many London properties may be hidden or remote. Again we are experts in locating these. Meters may be in different parts of the block, in car ports or locked basements, or in under street vaults. Liaising with property management and porters to help locate them is a common occurrence for us.

We even use rope access and abseilers on the exterior if needs be. Access to other neighbouring properties is a further challenge we face. Rear gardens belonging to a flat underneath the property may need to be accessed so we can get ladders through or make good any building fabric that needs addressing.
Lots of new boiler installations need adjustments, alterations or upgrades to the old gas pipe serving the appliance. New boilers combust and use gas in a different way and this often means we need to run new sections of gas pipe up through the property from the gas meter to the boiler. This again takes experience and know how to carry out in the least disruptive way possible if drilling through rooms, communal hallways, up the exterior of buildings. We aim to minimise any making good or re-decoration required by the homeowner.
